DNG Creation Camouflage Review and Giveaway

Do you have animal lovers in your house? Then Creation Camouflage is the DNG you have to try! We have enjoyed our week learning all about how animals use camouflage to “eat or avoid being eaten”. What an amazing Creator we have!

Let me tell you about these DNG units in general and then I will give you a little more information about Creation Camouflage specifically.

Each DNG unit is geared to children K-4 but could easily be expanded to use with older children. Planning and Preparation is so easy because all the work is done for you. Everything you need is included – websites, videos, fun activities, and lapbook pieces. You could easily expand on it if you choose with more books and rabbit trails or you can use it as is and have a wonderful study. I spend about 30 minutes over the weekend looking over the unit, printing, putting books on hold, and cutting lapbook pieces. (I always cut them out ahead of time and sort them by day. Some might think there is a lot of printing but you can print as much or little of the materials as you decide. I print all the lapbook pieces and some activity pages and the rest we work on orally together. It works out perfectly.

Take a look at some of the sample pages here.

Creation Camouflage is filled with fascinating videos about interesting animals with unique abilities to survive in their specific habitats. We learned about rain forests, deserts, oceans, and the tundra. As well as, an author and several conservationists. Each day you will focus on a specific animal and the way they use adaptation to survive.

Here are a few of the titles we used for our studies. There is a very extensive list included in each DNG unit.

Each unit is broken down into 5 days/objectives:

Day 1: Hiding in Plain Sight
Day 2: Getting to Know the Rain Forest
Day 3: What Is in the Desert?
Day 4: Hiding in the Ocean
Day 5: Cool Things About the Tundra

We have completed several of the Download N Go units and I am always amazed at how much is included in each unit but not in an overwhelming way and this one is no exception. The information is presented in an inviting way and the layout is bright and attractive. The lapbook is a great keepsake and can be used for later review. It is a great way to keep a record of all your studies.

Here are some shots of our lapbook.

One of the things I love so much about these DNG units is that there is so much meat in them. This is another study we could have easily spent four weeks digging deeper into; but because it is totally self contained and easy to complete, we were able to use it as is. So that when life happens, as it often does, (for us that meant an unexpected death in the family and a trip out of state) I could still give my kids an interesting and well planned lesson. One less thing to stress about! I love that!

I found both of these books at our library and my boys really enjoyed them and they went with this unit so well.

I would gladly recommend these Download & Go Units to anyone. You can order them individually for $7.95 each. These are just a few of the titles they offer!

And if you just can’t decide, you can purchase them in bundles at a discounted price!

You can also check out the DNG Blog for all the latest information and specials.

DNG Pizza Party Review and Giveaway!

Who doesn’t love pizza? All that gooey cheese and crispy crust! It’s definitely one of my favorite foods! This week we had a Pizza Party! Thanks to Download & Go’s Pizza Party Unit! We combined two of my favorite things eating pizza & learning!

Here are the objectives we had for each day:

Day 1: Pizza-What is it?
Day 2: The Story of Pizza
Day 3: Types of Pizza
Day 4: The Science of Pizza
Day 5: Let’s Have a Pizza Party

As with all the DNG Units, there is an extensive books list to go with each day’s objective. I decided to do something a little different this time and do the study completely with what is contained in the unit. Let me just say, I felt like there was more than enough information to work with. It was complete without adding anything!

All I did to prepare was to print what I needed and make sure I had ingredients on hand for experiments and making pizza. Everything you need is included – websites, videos, fun activities, and lapbook pieces. I have been extremely pleased with the quality of the printables. The kids and I really enjoy having a beautiful lapbook/notebook at the end of our unit.

You can take a look at some samples here.

Pizza Party is not just about pizza though! We learned a lot about Italy, Famous Italians, Cheese, and many other interesting things. It really had my boys asking lots of questions; many times this week we had to take time to dig a little deeper because they were truly fascinated by the things we were studying. I have to tell you I love it when that happens! I really enjoyed the beautiful videos of the scenery of Italy and we all got a kick out of the music. And once again, the science experiments and cooking are a hit!

We had Pepperoni and Meat Lover’s Pizza during the week and here is one of our all time favorites: Fruit Pizza!

This time we decided to try something new and use a 3 prong folder with pockets rather than a file folder so we could include all of our maps and biography pages. Take a look at our finished lapbook/notebook.

I would gladly recommend these Download & Go Units to anyone. You can order them individually for $7.95 each.

***This weekend, Sept. 4th and 5th, you can purchase Pizza Party for only $5. ***

These are just a few of the titles they offer! And if you just cant decide, you can purchase them in bundles at a discounted price.

We have a Winner!

Sarah has won DNG's Roller Coasters! Congratulations!

Sarah said, "Great review. Looks like a lot of fun. So many of the Download and Go units look interesting, but I think the birthday bonanza would be so fun for kids. I'm not a roller coaster rider myself. I can only handle the tamer rides like Peter Pan."

Thanks to everyone who read my review and entered. Check back often for more chances to win. Up next....DNG's Pizza Party!

Roller Coaster DNG Review and Giveaway

Have you tried the new Download and Go Units from TOS written by Amanda Bennett? If you are looking for something fun both you and your kids will enjoy ….you need to check these out!

We are so excited to tell you about our week with Roller Coasters!
***We were provided a copy of this product, free of charge, for the purpose of writing an honest review.***

The Unit is broken down into 5 days/objectives:

Day 1: What is a roller coaster?
Day 2: The History of Roller Coasters
Day 3: People and Places of Roller Coasters
Day 4: Science Secrets of Roller Coasters and Rides
Day 5: Goodies and Gadgets of Roller Coasters

There are plenty of book suggestions for each day but they are not necessary to complete the unit. Just an extra loop on the roller coaster!

These are some of the books we used.

Planning and Preparation is so easy because all the work is done for you. Everything you need is included – websites, videos, fun activities, and lapbook pieces. You could easily expand on it if you choose with more books and rabbit trails or you can use it as is and have a wonderful study. I printed all the lapbook pieces and some activity pages and the rest we worked on orally together. It worked out perfectly.

Check out samples here.

We did lots of experiments with gravity, weight, and simple machines. This was my boys favorite part! They spent all one afternoon sending one thing after another down our inclined plane (aka the slide) to see if size of the object or height of the incline makes a difference in speed.

Does everything land with the same force? Do some things fall faster than others?

We had lots of dropping races!

We finished up and began to put all our lapbook pieces together and review everything we learned in the process.

Here is a shot of our completed lapbook!

We’ve learned about science, history, geography, and lots of new vocabulary this week. Most importantly, we had a great time together and my boys were
excited about learning!
